Five and a bit years ago Fred & Eric's first logo was formed on a napkin over a Formica table in Amsterdam. Our logo featured a fixed typeface and an ever-changing array of ampersands which much like our work, could effortlessly adapt to different styles, techniques and moods. After an incredibly busy few years Fred & Eric thought it was time to update our brand alongside launching a new website. We are so proud of all the work we've created as Fred & Eric and feel like this new website is the perfect showcase of how far we've come since that pivotal afternoon in Amsterdam.
As a creative agency, updating our own brand is possibly the toughest brief we could undertake. Fred & Eric's original logo played with an ever changing ampersand in a playful, flexible identity. As much as we loved this malleable marque, it felt like the right time to give the brand a refresh. Our new logo holds an ampersand at the heart of its intricate design and shortens the company name to F&E. Obviously being animators, a static logo just wouldn't do. The flowing animation of the ampersand is as integral to the new logo as the design itself.
Our sparkly new website was built in collaboration with our friends at digital product design agency, Owl & Giraffe. Updating our old site to a mobile responsive solution, integrated with F&E's social media channels. Our new site also proudly unveils brand new projects for Oxfam, NSPCC and a new showreel.
Jamie Pigram, Sarah Killeen & Maggie Rogers head up the all-female directive team at F&E. Having met over 10 years ago whilst working at animation agency, Mr & Mrs Smith, the trio found an affiliation with a like-minded work ethos. A weekend away in Amsterdam instigated a mutual desire for the friends to set up their own agency. In February 2011 this ambition was realised when Fred & Eric opened their doors to business, with film director Richard Curtis commissioning their first job for Comic Relief. Since then the company has grown from strength to strength. And who are Fred & Eric... we couldn't possibly divulge such top secret information online. Meet us and we'll be glad to oblige!
The F&E team specialises in a range of animation answering a wide spectrum of briefs. Our traditional animation expertise includes stopframe and cel animation. Model-making including anything from handmade paper-craft to 3D printed models. Our 2D animations feature a wide range of styles from mixed media to typographic and character animation. F&E's 3D animations are equally in demand, often blurring the lines between handcrafted and CG. Live action shoots and puppetry are techniques F&E hold particularly close to their creative hearts, having honed the skills and levels of patience required to work with with difficult cardboard models, unruly conveyor belts and let's not forget..... children! Moving with our digital age, F&E are also outputting work for screens and media platforms of all shapes and sizes. What fuses all of these techniques to form our unique house style, is F&E's passion for great storytelling, thoughtful design and expressive animation. Take a look below at a handful of work from our varied portfolio.
