Oxfam Presents Glastonbury Live - Fred & Eric Stand as One Campaign

Oxfam Presents Glastonbury Live

Rainbows, rain and an awesome line-up - find out how we created this unique commercial in just 5 days.

In our humble opinions, one of our animation agency superpowers is to be highly adaptable to varied briefs and deadlines, and still be able to produce top-quality content. This commission for the album titled Oxfam Presents: Stand as One - Live at Glastonbury 2016 album is testament to our commitment to creativity under pressure!

Oxfam approached us to create the ad for this compilation album and gave us just five days to make it happen! We'd never say yes to such a tight deadline unless we had a killer creative and supportive client. Luckily, we had both, so we kicked off production without wasting a minute. Having previously created similar live-action promos for Channel 4, we felt confident in our creative idea and used the same technique.

Working fast without compromising quality

We had under 30 seconds to introduce the album, so getting straight to the point was key! With this in mind, we cast the the album vinyl sleeve as the star of the show. Remaining center-screen throughout the ad.

A mini narrative was devised, showcasing the lead musical acts (not easy because at the time of production this was still being finalised!). Then we added cheeky nods towards the Glasto experience including the weather, tractors and of course a mic tap. Layers of paper crowds appearing at the end were a nod to Oxfam's Stand As One branding.

We rapidly assembled a supporting cast of helping hands to reveal our collection of handmade and pre-sourced props. It's the full festival experience in under 30 seconds, without the soggy socks!

Producing the Commercial

What better way to showcase our hard work and expertise than a hastily put-together behind the scenes video! Take a look at our first-class cast and crew in action.

Adding a soundtrack, with no music

Unusually for a compilation album commercial, we didn't have access to any of the live tracks… because this ad was made ahead of the live event! Instead we had to get creative again.

The team built the sound design by layering a gradual crescendo of ambient background and spot sounds. They crafted it to feel like a quick-fire tour of Glastonbury Festival. We started with a build-up of festival excitement as the crowd await the first band's arrival. It's the sound of distant chatter and rhythmic claps. Followed by humorous hints to the weather and finally the end clear-up. This immersive soundscape draws the listener in. Creating a sense of anticipation that mirrors the energy and unique experience of Glastonbury Festival.

Where Creativity Meets Purpose

Silliness aside, we were really passionate about creating something stand-out for this album. Oxfam created the album to promote its Stand As One Campaign, supporting people forced to flee conflict, disaster, and poverty. They dedicated the album to the memory of Jo Cox, MP — a former Oxfam activist who campaigned tirelessly for refugees.

Another creative commission that ticked every box for us, and hopefully did some good along the way too.
