World Bank Group: COP26
A communication animation created to launch the Transport Decarbonization Investment series (TDI) at COP26, Glasgow.
The World Bank Group invited Fred & Eric to create this communication film. It launched ahead of the COP26 Climate Conference and showcases the World Bank's Transport Decarbonization Investment. The series was developed in partnership with the government of the Netherlands and the World Resources Institute. The animation summarises a new series of publications and events that aim to decarbonize transport.
When we first chatted to our clients about the brief, they were wary about using animation for this film. They were keen to avoid any child-like cartoony illustrations for such an important topic. We wanted to reassure them that animation isn't always for children!
After sending a few style references and moodboards, we won them over! With this "grown-up" styling and graphic layouts, we developed a mixed-media style to convey the key messaging. Using photography helped to connect these issues with the real world. These images were juxtaposed with typographic statements, news-print textured backgrounds, graphic lines and blocks of colour. The end result was a (grown-up!) snappy communication film, aimed accurately to the World Bank's target audience.
